Moving Poems Privacy Policy

Who we are

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact form

When visitors use the contact form to send a message, it is treated the same as an email to the site admin: Messages are retained indefinitely unless a request is received to delete them, but no data is shared with anyone else for any reason, and contact form users or emailers will NOT be signed up to any lists of our own (e.g. to receive the newsletter).

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

Nobody.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. We also retain contact messages indefinitely, as noted above.

For authors at Moving Poems and Moving Poems Magazine, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. For security reasons, we generally have not shared log-ins with contributors, but will be happy to edit or delete their personal information on request.

What rights you have over your data

If you are an author on Moving Poems (including Moving Poems Magazine), or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

We’re happy to delete or edit your comments on request. Please note, however, that when you write a post/article for the site, you grant us the right to display that content indefinitely, just as if we were a print magazine. The difference is that we can go in and change (or replace with “Anonymous”) your pen name at your request, and are happy to do so for any reason.

Where we send your data

This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. The information collected includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, and referrer (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name or alias, email address, optional URL link, and the comment itself).

Additional information

What third parties we receive data from

If you sign up for the Moving Poems Weekly Digest (using the form in the footer of the main site, the sidebar of the magazine, or by clicking on the link in the version shared to Twitter), your email and other information collected by MailChimp will be available to us through their platform. However, none of that data is shared with anyone else for any reason; the list is used solely for the digest and other very occasional mailings of direct relevance to Moving Poems readers. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by clicking the link in the email footer, or by contacting Dave at bontasaurus@yahoo.com.
